Photography Lovers Unite, New Camera Gear for 2018

Year after year, companies come out with some of the strangest, coolest, and most innovative gadgets when it comes to photography. Whether you are a DSLR lover or an iPhone camera fanatic, this list of gear is sure to inspire you and help take your photography to the next level.

Three Must Have Camera Gadgets for the Everyday Photographer

Whether you are a DSLR lover or a point and shoot user, hobbyist photographers love cool camera gadgets just as much as the professionals. Luckily, cool and creative gear designed for non-professionals won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Here is my hobbyist inspired list of the top three must have camera gadgets this year:

  1. Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Instant Film Camera - This camera is so much fun, I even own one myself! Just like the old school Polaroid cameras, this Fujifilm Instax Mini will print your photo right after you snap. How cool is that? Even my son (who is two years old) loves to play with this camera.

  2. HP Sprocket Portable Photo Printer- Next on my list is a must have gadget for the digital fanatic who wants to print their own photos but still hold on to the digital file. This HP Sprocket portable printer allows you to print your photos straight off your phone or your camera. As the daughter to a woman who only takes photos with her phone, I can tell you that she was over the moon when she got this for Christmas!

  3. JOBY Gorillapod for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras- The last item I wanted to include is this nifty tripod manufactured by JOBY. Known for its flexible legs that allow you to control the angle and position of your camera, while still being sturdy enough to take a stunning photograph, the JOBY Gorillapod is a fantastic portable tripod for the casual photographer. Even as a professional, I rely on JOBY because they are dependable and I know that they are made well and wont jeopardize my expensive gear.

Three Must Have Camera Gadgets for the Smartphone Photographer

Ok, we all know that smartphones are becoming the go to camera for most casual users who are trying to capture memories on a daily basis. Every time a new phone comes out, the most important feature emphasized is the phone's camera. That is why it comes as no surprise that there are so many gadgets on the market designed to target the "selfie" generation.

Here is my list of the three must have camera gadgets for your cell phone this year:

  1. Apexel 4 in 1 12x Zoom Telephoto Lens, Fisheye, Wide Angle, Macro Lens and Tripod Kit for iPhone and Samsung Smartphones- This kit has everything you need to take your smarthphone photography to the next level. Including a variety of lenses, a holder, and a tripod, this handy kit is perfect for anyone that wants to take more creative photographs with their phone.

  2. JANCHUN Rechargeable Selfie LED Camera Light- Looking to up your selfie game? Look no further than this JANCHUN rechargeable ring light, designed to highlight all of your facial features- resulting in stunning portraits. The light clips on to your phone, features seven different lighting colors, and is rechargeable.

  3. YiKaiEn 3 in 1 SDHC SDXC Micro SD CardReader- The last gadget is the 3 in 1 card reader manufactured by YiKaiEn. Allowing you to connect the reader directly to your smartphone, you can easily move photos from your phone to an SD or micro SD card so you can store them externally.

Four Must Have Gadgets for the Professional Photographer

If you are a professional photographer, the gear you need is vastly different than that of a hobbyist. Between the camera bodies, the lenses, the accessories, the computer software, the lighting - it can be overwhelming to say the least.

Here are my top four must have camera gadgets for 2018:

  1. Sony A77II Digital SLR Camera with 16-50mm F2.8 Lens- As a Canon user, it pains me to recommend a Sony camera, but I just can't help it. Sony has perfected the DSLR with their new autofocus abilities, and the results are insanely crisp images that will leave your clients overjoyed. Paired with the 16-50mm 2.8 lens, this bundle is the perfect choice for those looking into professional photography.

  2. Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW Camera Backpack- I cannot rave about Lowepro enough! They are the only brand I use for camera luggage and storage. This bag in particular, the ProTactic 450, can fit up to two bodies, over eight lenses, a 15" laptop, a tripod and more. Not only that, but somehow it manages to defy gravity, making it feel lightweight- not putting much strain on your back at all.

  3. MagMod Basic Kit (Version 3)- If you haven't heard of MagMod, you may want to go back up to the hobbyist section (just kidding)! But really, MagMod manufactures some of the most incredible lighting modifiers I have ever used. This basic kit is a great way to get your feet wet and see what these modifiers can do for your photography. I promise you, you won't regret it!

  4. DJI Phantom 4 PRO Quadcopter Starters Backpacker Bundle- Nothing is hotter in the professional photography industry than drones right now, and this DJI Phantom 4 PRO bundle is the creme de la creme of drone photography equipment. If you have been on the fence about getting into drone photography, don't go for one of the cheaper models. I promise you, you will regret your decision. With drone photography, precision, sharpness, and quick focus are so crucial.
